What's new with slugging and sluglines.

OPPORTUNITY TO HELP EXPAND SLUGGING! The U.S. Department of Transportation/Federal Highway Administration is working with AEM Corporation to expand the practice of slugging within and beyond the Washington, DC area.

The project team is looking for volunteers from the Horner Road–Pentagon and the 234–Pentagon slug lines to use and provide feedback on a mobile slugging app designed to grow slugging in the region and to foster slugging in other cities. As slugging has been hit hard by the pandemic, the app might even help local users re-engage in slugging as people return to the office.

If you are willing to assist with this important project, please click the following link to provide some information. Thank you in advance for your assistance! https://forms.gle/vzjdnYwLDPg4YdJa8

Retirement of Slug-Lines.com: After 22 years of maintaining the Slug-Lines.com website and promoting this incredible grassroots form of commuting, I have decided to retire. It has truely been a pleasure serving the slugging community and I hope this website has helped in some small way.

Although I will no longer actively maintain the information on the website, I will keep the site functioning. I encourage everyone to continue using the forum and help answer question for those those new to slugging.

"The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line" Although I normally limit the focus of this website to only slugging, occasionally there is an opportunity to step outside my own lines. To that end, let me recommend a great book. The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line is a book that explores the untold stories of women who struggled, prevailed and served during WWII.  These are the legacies of our grandmothers , the trails they blazed, and the inspiring tales of their struggles.  They were spies, codebreakers, resistance fighters, and soldiers.  They did it all, when no one expected they could. The book is now available for print preorder on Amazon and other online retailers (BN.com, Bookshop.org). https://www.amazon.com/Girls-Who-Stepped-Out-Line/dp/1728230926.

Short Survey on the Future of Slugging! As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted slugging. As we move forward, we are trying to determine when slugging will resume to normal. To get a better idea of when that might happen, I would ask that you take a very short survey. It really only take 1-2 minutes to complete. Thank you in advance for your time! Please click the link below to take the survey. [Click Here to Take Survey] or copy/paste this URL: https://forms.gle/maKGbu7jUFfjbySk9

COVID-19 Pandemic Slugging Impacts! It is strongly recommended that commuters do NOT slug during the COVID-19 pandemic. The risk of transmission is too great to justify the benefits. We must all work together to help limit the spread of this horrible virus.

Slugging is a term used to describe a unique form of commuting found in the Washington, DC area.   It has thousands of vehicles at its disposal, moves thousands of commuters daily, and the best part, it’s FREE! Not only is it free, but it gets people to and from work faster than the typical bus, metro, or train. It's unique because it is not a government sponsored commuter program, but one created out of ingenuity from local citizens to solve commuter problems.
