Trouble
recognizing the slug line name? Click on the map for more information.
Each slug line will be described using: location, description, destination,
best hours, drivers, parking, Metro station, bus station, returning PM Slug
line, and notes. Each element is described below.
Location:
Actual street address or location of the slug line. For
example, "On the east side of Potomac Mills Shopping Mall near the
intersection of Telegraph Road and 14700 Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge,
VA.".
Description:
Describes where and how the slug line operates. For
example, "This slug line is not actually on the corner of 14th Street and
Constitution. Instead, it is about 50 yards south of Constitution on the
sidewalk and co-located with the Metro line. Across the street from the slug
line is the National Museum of American History."
Destinations:
A list of destinations that a particular slug line
services. Many slug lines have multiple destinations, for example, "Rosslyn,
Crystal City, 14th & Independence, etc."
Best Hours:
Most slug lines have specific hours, and if you arrive
outside of these hours, you won’t find a line at all! Here, I have tried to
identify the "best hours" of each line, for example, "Slugs begin
forming by 4:00 p.m. with the peak time at 4:30 p.m. By 5:30 p.m., drivers are
seldom stopping, so the best bet is to take the Metro (Blue Line) to the
Pentagon and use the Potomac Mills/Horner Road slug line."
Drivers:
Some lines have unique maneuvers for drivers. Unless the driver
knows where to go, he might find himself in the wrong line. This section will
briefly describe where to pick up the slugs, for example, "Pick up slugs
heading south on 14th Street."
Parking:
Describes what type of parking is available in the area. For
example, "Meter parking and parking garages."
Metro Station:
Describes the nearest Metro station from the slug line or
destination and the color line it services. For example, "L’Enfant Plaza,
Blue, Green, Yellow, and Orange lines, 3.5 blocks to the NW."
Bus:
List of bus lines and routes near the destination or slug line. For
example, "Metro Bus routes 3A, 3B, 3E, 15K Fairfax Connector, State
Department, Pentagon shuttle."
Returning Slug
Line:
Gives other locations in the afternoon that
return to your origination point. For example, if your origination point was
from Bob’s, then the following afternoon slug lines will get you back:
Pentagon, 14th & NY, Commerce Building, L’Enfant Plaza.
