Very un-scientific test in the Wash Post today has slugging barely beating the bus. Drivers would save time and money taking the bus.

But they buried the lead: couple of hours later the commute time was reduced by 66%. Staggered starting times, which cost nothing, would ease traffic much more than billion dollar projects.

Doesn't that avoid the question: "Why are drivers drivers?" I understand how it would save money, but time?

I used to work 10AM-630PM in DC, which was great commute-wise. I didn't have kids then. I don't think it would work now.

Thanks for the article. It was really interesting considering I was one of those stuck in traffic on Old Bridge yesterday morning.

"But she [McQuigg] has not taken a position on the I-95 proposal to create high occupancy toll lanes."

That kind of "race" should be mandatory for any official before making transportation decisions! Real eye opener for those who don't commute regularly up I-95.

The slug, and slug driver, beat the bus by 13 minutes, which is not "barely". For a bus to be faster, or as fast, it has to be sure to stop at your destination FIRST. There aren't any busses that stop where I'm going, let alone first.
