What's going on I-95 down south of the HOV lanes? [?]

For at least a couple days this week and several other times since schools started back up, there have been morning accident reports on TV and radio "just south of the HOV entrance between Quantico and Dumfries".

Is it really that hazardous down there, or are drivers just being that careless? Seems to be a regular pattern of accidents there. [V]

I only occasionally go that way but I know exactly what causes it.

1. Hills
2. The point on 95 where the backup starts
3. The HOV entrance and associated lane changes
4. Trucks and trucks going too fast
5. Everyone going too fast

Yes, and liberals, too. Can't forget about those bagel-eating, NPR-listening, Volvo-driving, wine-sipping, free-range tax-and-spend liberals from Stafford. God knows they cause misery enough in the evenings, what with their soccer games, and PTO meetings, and the extra trip to the organic market to get soy milk for the kids; now we have to deal with their dangerous Blackberrying, eye-brow plucking, CD-exchanging behavior in the morning, too!

Man, when's it gonna end?

You forgot the most important one: everybody following too closely. nearly every accident is a rear-ender caused by failing to leave enough room between yourself and the car in front of you. Also, if someone is following YOU too closely you must leave extra room between yourself and the car in front of you so both you and the idiot behind you can stop in time to avoid getting involved in something that happens in front of you.
