I know to some people that this may sound anal, or that I might sound ungrateful for a free ride. However, judging from some of the posts that I have read so far on this forum, there are complaints of bad drivers or disgusting vehicles, etc.

I am suggesting starting a listing of those drivers. It would be up to each individual slug whether they want to chance the ride or not. And, what may be offensive to one slug might not be offensive to another. I, myself, can tolerate a free ride, so if these people made it onto my list, then they must be really, really BAD. Additionally, if you choose to add to the list, please put which lot they primarily pick up from.

1. Ping Pong Man -- 94/95 Fuschia/Red Ford Escort - 5 spd. Ping Pongs messages while driving all over the road. [Rte. 610]

2. Teal Corolla Lady -- 95ish Teal Toyota Corolla. Towel (it's brown so I can't tell if its clean or not) on the back seat. Stereo blaring in the back. Rear door behind the driver does not work at all. She has to let you out. Baby seat on the other side so the option of sitting on the other side is not there. [Rte. 610]

I am thinking that we make everybody wear a big Scarlet "A" so we can identify them! Actually I am not opposed to your list except things like that turn personal and people with vendettas out there can make life difficult for an unsuspecting person. I usually take a look before I get into the car. If it looks ok then I get in, if not just take a pass.

The only person that I really warn people against is a very dangerous driver. He falls asleep at the wheel!! I have rode with him twice and both times he was falling asleep and running off the road!! The other drawback to him is that he picks his nose when he's not asleep.

White Dodge Intrepid, Newer Model. License Plate: ADSALE. He has bumper stickers all over the back of the car. He usually picks up at Route 610 and the Pentagon.

Sorry, but he is a danger to everyone out there!!

There is a driver that picks up riders at 610. He drives a white late model suv (4x4 I think),stickers on the back windows warning of working dogs (like police), license plate 1LILBRO. He drove me and two other people home last month from the GSA pick up spot. Before he passed the Pentagon he was doing 85 mph! With both front windows down and rap music blaring. The bad thing was - well another bad thing- was he was falling asleep! At one point in time he hit 95MPH! At that point I pulled out my cell to call the police. He saw me and slowed down AND lowered the rear window to make sure I was really blown out!

Actually it is easier said than done. I have actually rode with people numerous times that I have vowed never to ride again. Sometimes in the morning when you are rushing, you dont even realize. Like yesterday a woman pulled up with a van and picked up 5 people for from the line. All were appreciative. I dont know if anyone else noticed, but the car smelled like an old wet dog and all I wanted to do when I got out was throw up. I have also had the driver falling asleep, but worst of all is this man who goes to Lenfant and I think he drives a white Ford Taures with a missing side view mirror, (didnt notice that either until I got in the car) He drives like a maniac. Once I rode with him and he actually sped past a motorcycle that was in the same lane as us nearly knocking him off the rode. I have promised myself to be more attentive in the mornings, its just not worth it. Free ride or not.

I know exactly who you are talking about! You know, about a year ago, he gave me a ride into the city and when he dropped me off at my stop, he gave me his work e-mail because we were previously discussing an alleged job opportunity at his place of employment. So later that day, I e-mail him to inquire about the job and instead, he said there was no job and he asked me out! Yuck!

Turns out, he lives in my apartment complex too, like two buildings from mine. I always hide if I see him drive through the parking lot and I am outside. I don't want him to know where I live!

Dina:

What a experience the one you had! I hope he does not see you outside the apartment complex.

Here's another one to add to the "do-not-ride-with" list:

Late 80s/early 90s burgundy/purpleish Honda Civic - stripped molding on the passenger side doors and a dirty napkin stuffed in the passenger side front "vent" window (which is broken). I had the unfortunate experience of riding with her this morning from 17. The radio was blaring (sexually explicit rap music, no less), she talked on the cell phone for about a third of the trip, and she drove with a coffee cup in one hand almost the entire way. Riders beware!

oh that guy in the white intrepid is the scariest person to ride with. to top it off, he spent the trip talking about his twin 5 year old daughters. i hate to think he drives them around. he slammed on his brakes so hard one night we just missed rearending someone. he is crazy and i have passed on rides w/him before.
