which begs the ethical question... who's the scofflaw? The folks who drive through at normal speed and ignore the illegitimate signs or the construction supervisor who put up and then FAILED to remove the signs..... or was that a VDOT responsibility???

Coming in this morning, I was looking at the northbound signs. There are about 3 50mph signs going north, but they are somewhat smaller than the regular 65 signs. Then, a couple miles north of springfield there are two small orange signs, one on each side, saying "end construction" The first 65 sign is then almost to Landmark.
Southbound, my recollection is that there is a 50 sign, but maybe just one. Not as well marked.

Its BAH-AAACK!
All three of us in the car pool saw it today!
Yes Virginia, there really is a 50 mph sign for the southbound HOV lanes.
It's mounted atop the HOV right side Jersey barriers about 1/2 mile north of the beltway, and it's a normal-sized speed limit sign.

Now, there's still one puzzle: Since it appears to be 50 mph through Springfield, why is the posted speed limit 55 mph on the Va 644 exit ramp? We're guessing it must be in prep of the 50 mph speed limit returning to 65 mph in the future.
