Apparently one of the owners of Springfield Plaza, Al Dwoskin, decided to discontinue allowing commuters to park in his section of the parking lot. This affects 75 spaced on the K-mart side of the lot. Not sure which business owners he rents too, but seems like approaching the businesses owners to pressure the landlord would be the best approach. Between sluggers and drivers we number about 500 potential customers of Springfield Plaza. I know I do lost of errands there after dropping off slugs that I would do elsewhere on my way home if I wasn't already driving through that shopping center. Perhaps a boycott of shopping at the businesses Dwoskin rents to would show our strength as customers of Springfield Plaza???

Clarification: Springfield Plaza Park and Ride to Lose 75 Parking Spaces on Jan. 31
Springfield Plaza Park and Ride will lose 75 commuter parking spaces on Saturday, Jan. 31. However, commuter parking spaces are still available at this location. The Springfield Plaza Park and Ride has been well-utilized for many years and is frequently used by “sluggers” for informal carpools. Passengers of Fairfax Connector routes 331, 332, and Metrobus route 18E will still be able to park and catch the bus at this location, but parking spaces may fill up more quickly since there are fewer spaces available. Springfield Plaza property owners have generously provided commuters with free parking for many years, contributing to the variety of transportation options available in Fairfax County . As business at the Plaza continues to grow, one of the property owners has chosen to re-assign these parking spaces for business patrons. Commuters are reminded to follow the parking restrictions which are posted on the property, as towing is regularly enforced to ensure ample parking for Springfield Plaza customers. Commuters who are not able to find a parking space at Springfield Plaza are encouraged to utilize alternative parking at the following park and rides: Springfield United Methodist Church; 6501 Spring Road, Springfield , VA 22150; 56 spaces; served by Fairfax Connector routes 310, 321, 322, 331, 332 and Metrobus routes 18E,G,H,J,P on Old Keene Mill Road Backlick North Park and Ride; 6831 Backlick Road , Springfield , VA 22150; 279 spaces; served by Fairfax Connector routes 310, 331, 332 American Legion; 6500 Amherst Avenue , Springfield , VA 22150; 100 spaces; served by Fairfax Connector routes 310, 321, 322, 331, 332 and Metrobus routes 18G,H,J,P Gambrill Road Park and Ride; 7321 Gambrill Road , Springfield , VA 22153; 223 spaces; served by Fairfax Connector route 305 and Metrobus route 18R There is no cost to park at these park and rides.
