Last Wednesday there were people handing out a pamphlet about the HOT Express Lanes. Just some comments:

"E-ZPass and enhanced enforcement mean fewer violators in the lanes"

There aren't that many violators now and when it is enforced all it does is slow the traffic.

"HOV benefit will be available all day, not just during rush hour"

The only time it is needed is during rush hour! The main lanes don't back up other times(except on Holiday weekends and all day Friday). This won't help commuters at all. Especially if the cars from the main lane can go HOT lanes. All lanes will then be stopped. Requiring HOV-3 or tolls other times is just a money making proposition for the toll collecting company.

"...HOV lanes will remain HOV-only north of Edsall Road..."

The traffic on the HOV lanes should back up nicely from cars having to exit onto 395 in the morning. The main lanes at that point are very, very slow. There is no place for cars to exit to! Southbound cars will probably enter at the point south of Duke where it used to be Express lanes South, not HOV. This should again back up traffic.

Hybrids will not be exempt. This may be good for the slugs!

Average traffic speed is suppose to be 55 or greater. With the variable toll rate this should rake in a lot of money when the lanes back up.

Anybody else read this pamphlet?
