What a surprise. Our elected officials hold a meeting, unannounced in any way, and come out of it with a radical transportation plan that no citizens support.

Way to go, Sean! Way to go, Maureen! That's leadership at its finest! No wonder you all got elected.

I admit I having been keeping up with the HOT lanes issue as much as I should. What is their timeline for making this happen?

I think it' around 2006. Or a bit over a year. There's not a whole lot they need to do, once they get approval. There are no domain issues, no environmental issues, it's just a matter of slapping down some asphalt, painting some more stripes, and, don't forget!, putting in Toll Card Readers. They don't offer to do any enformcement other than with cameras. Real useful those will be on December evenings when the dark-window SUV's roll through. My real concern is how unsafe the damn things will be. It will have a 9' and a 2' shoulder on the same level, exactly, as the three high speed lanes, which will need a design variance allowance from state and federal standards because they will only be 11' feet wide, not 12'.

If you get a flat tire, what are you supposed to do? What will happen when a PRTC bus breaks down?

The same thing that happens on 66. People will die. Seriously. People will be hit and killed but at least the state will be making money.
