There are a disturbing number of body snatchers appearing at Bob's. There was a blue Ford Taurus and a dark colored SUV trying to get people as they walked from the commuter lot through the First Union bank lot. Please folks, do not take rides from these people-- it ruins the system. And besides-- body snatchers usually appear when there are lots of cars already in line, so as a rider, you're probably going to get a ride from the drivers already in line anyway.

Acceptable to who? Nevermind, it is NOT acceptable to many (as you saw on the previous thread).

quote:

Look under slugging terms on this web site (http://www.slug-lines.com/Slugging/Slugging%20Terms.htmat) at the bottom of the page:

"Will Call — the driver’s option to pick a particular slug not at the front of the line. This situation usually happens when a driver sees a friend in line and simply calls for that individual."

This is an acceptable practice and has been for years.

I agree with you Joma. As was stated on the previous thread which 610 slug angrily and, at times insultingly, tried to convince everyone to come round to his way of thinking, just because it is stated on the website that it is acceptable, doesn't mean all slugs think the same way. Of course we can't say or do anything about it, it is the driver's choice, but we don't have to dub it "acceptable." 610_slug doesn't get that he can't dictate to others how they must think.

I think "Will-Call" is only fair if the driver also picks up the fisrt person in line. That is, if a driver needs only one slug to make up a threesome, but sees someone in line that he calls out to, he should pick up the person he knows and the first one in line and make it a foursome. I've been in this situation a number of times as a slug and the driver cordially made it a foursome. To call out a person and not pickup one slug hurts the fundamental cause of the slugging system.

If a driver needs two slugs, he can pick up the person he knows and should have the prerogative to either pick up one or two slugs.

After I wrote the above comment, I wondered, what if a driver needed only one slug, but "will called" two people to make up his max capacity of four. Hopefully, this is a rare occurrence and it would be on the conscience of the driver to do the right thing.
