Status of New Commuter Lot

   VDOT updated their website on the "Backlick North" commuter lot located at the interchange of Backlick Rd and the Franconia-Springfield Parkway (Va 7900). [:)] 

	The website says the status is "All grade work including asphalt base and intermediate course for the parking lot has been completed. Surface course will be placed in October upon completion of the landscaping items. All incidental concrete items such as sidewalk, curb & gutter, stamped concrete sidewalk medians have been completed. Signal pole foundations and light pole foundations are complete, awaiting fabrication and delivery of signal and light poles. Miscellaneous electrical items remains and are in progress, under bridge lighting is in progress. Bus shelters have been installed. At this time, approximately 80% of the work has been completed. The following activities are scheduled for the next couple of months: Installation of bike lockers, signal poles and light poles, sign installation, surface Asphalt, pavement marking and landscaping items remains to be completed by October 2007."

	The website (at http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/const-project.asp?ID=251) describes the the lot as a "Park & Ride Facility on the eastern side of Backlick Road at its intersection with the Franconia Springfield Parkway. The facility will include a paved and lighted bus shelter, 264 parking spaces and accommodations for bicycles. A storm water management basin and landscaping are designed and will be built on the project."

	The VDOT site indicates the estimated completion date is December 13th.

	Hi - can anyone tell me if this lot will replace American Legion and Springfield Plaza? Will the entire slugline move, or is this just a new slugging location? Sorry, am not in the loop.

	This lot does not replace the spaces allotted at the American Legion/Springfield Plaza parking lots.

	This is an additional lot (at least for now) that the people who can't find legal parking spaces near "Bob's" and the people who have been wanting a commuter lot near Springfield Mall will be able to use. [:)] Perhaps those interested in using this new lot can start a slug line there when it opens.[;)] It may end up replacing the "Bob's" location if the developers have to shut down the current "Bob's" morning location to sluggin'. [:(]
