Does anyone know when the commuter parking lot at Gambril Rd and the Springfield/Franconia Parkway will open?

Will there be sluglines going downtown via Memorial bridge and returning via 19th and E street?

Looks like they are putting the finishing touches on the Gambrill Road lot, and it will probably open in the next week or so. [:)] There now appears to be parking spot lines painted when we passed by there yesterday. The Fairfax Connector website says the lot will open on/about the first of May, and there will be a regular bus from there to the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station. For slug lines, it's up to slugs to get them up and running. [;)] A while back, someone suggested this new Gambrill commuter lot have slug lines for downtown DC locations and the nearby Sydenstricker lot remain for NoVa locations (Pentagon, Rosslyn, and Crystal City).[;)] But final slug line arrangements at Gambrill need to be worked by the slugging community. Ok, lot is open for business. A whopping 6 cars were parked there this morning......let's get this one up and rolling. Very nice place for me to pick up slugs.

We need to post signs for the downtown destinations such as L'Enfant Plaza/7th & D, 14th St corridor, 12th St corridor etc.

We stopped by this new lot at 6:25 this morning because we saw two slugs forming a line just south of the bus stop. [^]

Both wanted to go to downtown DC locations (14th and something). We had room for one if either of them wanted to go to Pentagon/Rosslyn then Metro, but both said they'd wait for a downtown driver. [:)] Hope they got a ride.

Thought the Fairfax County Parkway slugs and drivers would be interested that slugs are starting to show up at Gambrill. [8D]

Keep on sluggin'! [:)]

Decided to check out the new lot this morning. I'm a Pentagon slug, but not an early bird. Got there ~7:25. Mostly empty lot, no evidence of drivers seeking riders. I walked the two blocks to the Sydenstricker lot. It was full, cars were illegally parked, and there were cars waiting for slugs. The two block walk is not a problem, especially when the weather is this good. However, it would be nice to convince drivers and riders to try the new lot after 0700, when the Sydenstriker lot is full.

Any suggestions about how to go about this?

Get a Boy Scout group to sponsor a merit badge on urban living. One project would be to put up temporary signs (4 PM to 8 PM) announcing the availability of the other lot. Supplement this with a "car wash" cheering section.

Contact the churches in the area. Either put a small note in the bulletins, or have an announcement from the pulpit. Separation of church and state? Not an issue. The state is hands off in promoting slugging.

Slugs have to promote slugging.
