It's great that I can pick up two people, in order to be able to use the HOV lanes.
However, I have two simple requests.
If you ride in my car, please avoid heavy Aftershave or much Perfume. You might like the smell, I don't. I simply end up with nausea or a headache. It's an allergy.
Secondly, if you are riding in my car, even though you may be riding along with your friend from any other country, the language to be spoken in my car is English. You live in the US, you drive in my car, so I assume you speak my language.

Thanks,
A Driver in Springfield

Dear SpringfieldDriver,

you forgot to tell us what type of car you own, that way they can pass their turn when they see you.

Dear SpringfieldDriver,

I assume that you’re not serious. Do people actually think the way that you do? Wearing too much perfume and aftershave is understandable because some people have allergies…

However…as far as the English speaking only, how do you propose to enforce this rule? Will you have signs posted in your windows letting everyone know that this is an “English speaking only” car? Heck, it may be worth the 30 mile drive to Springfield to have the opportunity to commute with you!

Are you at all flexible with the language thing? Are you sure German is not an acceptable language that can be spoken in your car? Will you make any exceptions?? Afterall, German is kind of close to English in many ways. Although I speak only remedial German, let me know what time to meet you! I could bring my German phrase book along and we could spend the commute into the city learning common German phrases together that sound close to English! Doesn't that sound absolutely ridicious?

America is a land of many different nationalities…and people speak many different languages. I could only wish that I knew more than one language.

Thanks again for making comments on something that makes no difference whatsoever as far as picking up slugs to make your commute easier. Hopefully the Springfield slugs will figure out who you are will look for another ride.

It's great that there is this great web site where people who slug can communicate with each other to better the system. However, I have two simple requests. If you pick up slugs, realize that there is a minimal amount of inconvenience that may surface from day to day. If you are that "aromically" challenged that people's fragrances disturb your body's homeostasis, then perhaps you are not a good candidate for a driver. Have you ever tried slugging? It's a great system! Secondly, if you are posting on this site, please refrain from making small-minded and bigoted comments about others who may not have the amazing grasp of the English language that you do. You sound like your nose is stuck so high up in the air, you are in danger of drowning in the rain. Keep your idiot requests to yourself, we don't want to hear them.

Geez, give the guy a break!!!! He's stating his opinion which is his right. WHY DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO ATTACK? Why the long soapbox response? Why not STATE your disagreement without pouncing?

Why is this topic even on this message board? Yes people are entitled to their opinions, but when you state an opinion, especially as ugly as the original one stated, everyone has a right to dissent against that opinion. To condone a person who blasts people based on their nationality or the fact that they don't speak English is racist. I personally would like it if people spoke English, but I also recognize that the first people who lived in this country spoke NATIVE AMERICAN, not English! Most of our ancestors came here via Ellis Island not knowing a lick of English (mine were German), so what has changed? Yes you can say that the difference today is that our ancestors bothered to attempt to learn the language unlike today, but they don't get very far without it.

Bottom line is that you can say what you want, but be prepared for others to exercise the right to call you for what you are -- and in this case the original post was made by a racist.

Oh. puleez!!!!!!! You miss the point of the others. Unnecessary is the key word. Much of your attacking on the various strings has been unnecessary. You can learn to state your opinion without getting so nasty. From past strings, I know you will come back with something inane, but I won't respond, because you seem to have to keep arguing with absolutely no substance.

Kortegel: Someone mentioned the word soapbox. You do turn everything into a soapbox topic ----BORRRING!!!!

Megled: I agree w/you. I'm not going to respond back to him either.
Shall we take bets whether he responds back w/the usual predictable responses?

Although he doesn't know me by name, I have actually spoken with Kortegel in line. He is very likeable. I think things just get translated wrong when he puts his thoughts in words. You would never guess that it is the same person. I am surprised to see how he and a few others come across, but just wanted to say he doesn't come across like that in person at all.

I have a remedy for this language issue:
KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! Whether you speak English or any other language -- it doesn't matter! Speak with the driver to let them know where you need to go and then read a book, read the paper, take a nap -- just don't talk!
If you have issues that as a driver you cannot handle, post a sign with all of your hang ups.
I believe that everyone has a right to their opinion so let's take it easy on one another in here. Okay?

I'm under the impression that I'm being given undue credit for a message in this string that was actually authored by 610 Slug. I wrote in support of them but did not write it. Newbies to this site should know how to use it before ganging up on folks.

To state "don't bother replying because I won't respond" is so fifth grade. Some of you out there seem to chime in with the assumption that I give a flying fig about your opinions.
