New Slugging Location on New York Avenue
15th Street Pick-up Location Will Move on Monday, February 28
(Washington, D.C.) As part of an ongoing effort to provide safe and convenient locations for slugging activity, The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is establishing a new location for vehicles to stop and pick-up passengers in the downtown area. Starting on Monday, February 28, 2011, the current slugging location on 15th Street, NW between H Street and New York Avenue will move to New York Avenue between 15th and 14th Streets.
The change is being made in response to feedback received from commuters who use the pilot pick-up location on 15th Street. Those commuters indicated the location on New York Avenue would be more convenient for drivers participating in slugging activity. DDOT has already distributed information about the location change to drivers and sluggers at the current location.
Passengers can be picked up between 3:30pm and 6:00pm at the new location. DDOT personnel will be on site on February 28 to provide assistance. If you have any questions please contact DDOT at (202) 671-0682 or visit www.slug-lines.com for more information.
DDOT has worked closely with PRTC (Omniride) to provide commuter bus service close to the new slugging location. As a result, the Omniride commuter bus routes that currently serve the 14th Street and New York Avenue location will be relocated to 15th Street at New York Avenue beginning on February 28. Omniride buses will no longer stop at 14th Street and New York Avenue after this date. If you have any questions about these changes please visit www.prtctransit.org
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Department of Public Works (DPW) and the DDOT will be enforcing the No Stopping, Standing, or Parking restrictions for passenger vehicles along both 14th Street and 15th Street between H Street and New York Avenue. Violators will be ticketed.
