Yep, free parking in DC is over June 1st.  It's time to start slugging again.  If my car costs more a month to park it than it does to pay for it, then something is wrong.

I'm all for that.  How official is this June 2 date?

There is a Pentagon rumor that Slugging is supposed to open up again starting 2 June 2021.
Can anybody confirms this? Is there any official guidance?

As official as it can be - it was posted in the comments above and we will be starting to look for riders from Dumfries/234 Lot on Wednesday going to the Pentagon.

How is the temporarily relocated "Bob's" slug line going from the Springfield Town Center? Has there been a lot of drivers and riders going to L'Enfant Plaza? Thanks!

Just to be clear about the Pentagon Slugline rumor -
I checked with the Pentagon Transportation Office yesterday. They have not made a decision yet about the Pentagon Sluglines, therefore, they are not officially open. I did see the Pentagon police hanging out yesterday afternoon near many of these lines. It is possible that that they will tell you to "move along", not sure that they will, but it is a possibility.
And before anybody complains that's not up to the Transportation office, If it's on the reservation here then they still determine when to "open stuff up" with respect to transportation.
I'll keep checking on this

People merely need to show up. Slugging is popular because it isn't a set time for anyone. It is convenient to be there when a rider or driver are conveniently there lol. People just need to show up both rider and driver the need is there. A few minutes waiting for both is worth it in the end compared to toll costs. Go to your loss and wait a few minutes.

Appreciate the official update... crazy that the Pentagon will however allow metro and buses to stop at the Pentagon but not allow slugging. Ihear the buses are full to capacity too. Crazy just a thought.

Slugged into the Pentagon from Horner yesterday.

Stood at the Horner line at the porkchop around 5. Pentagon Police did not stop me. There is no sign that says there is no slugging. The signs only state the same things we have heard and read last year about wearing masks and social distancing.
A car picked me up, but we left after waiting 10 minutes for another slug. No slugs were walking to any line.

Day 2 of getting a ride into the Pentagon from Horner.
It is nice riding on the HOV lanes again without paying nearly $20 in the morning or riding the bus.

Let's get the word out so more can come back to slugging.

OK, I’ll admit that some of the “official’ guidance regarding the status of the slug lines has been confusing & maybe contradictory – my apologies.

The verbal guidance I got earlier in the week left me under the impression that the lines were not officially open on the reservation.

However, I received the following email last night in response to my question, which provides better guidance:…..

To (ME)
Regarding your question on slugging, DoD does not regulate regional slugging.  However it does provide guidance for the use of our facilities (slug pickup locations) on the Pentagon Reservation.  DoD also provides guidance for safety and social distancing based on CDC guidance and according to the Pentagon's current HPCON status.  Under our current HPCON B+, "slugging is not recommended" for DoD employees, however, slug stations remain open around the reservation.

Subsequently I replied thanking TMPO but also letting them know that current signage at the slug line and lack of communication from TMPO regarding acceptable commuting options makes the current situation confusing. Please consider clear and effective communication being posted around the pentagon regarding the status of ALL acceptable commuting options as we start opening up more. It will help us get back to normal.

So,… I guess the bottom line is get your vaccine and we need to start embracing slugging again

If I (or anybody else) get any better updates, please report.

I can confirm that the Pentagon Police are allowing sluggers again.  I went to the pick-up point for Tackett's Mill today at 4PM.  I waited there for about 15 minutes, but no one showed, unfortunately.

A Pentagon Police woman pulled up beside me and asked if I was waiting for the slug line, and I told her I was hopeful they would start up again.  She said, "Okay, great.  Have a nice day." and drove off.

I'll show up at the Tackett's Mill pick-up points both ways every day to hopefully find people who will ride.

I've been trying to pickup people in the afternoon to go back to 610.
I will continue to do this.

Very easy to catch a ride to the Pentagon from Horner, but difficult going back to Horner. Stood under the shelter for roughly 20 minutes in the rain, and then walked back to catch the 5:20 bus.

Sadly as we left the bus circle, there was a vehicle waiting at the Horner line. At least we are saving money coming in.

I used to pick up from the Horner overflow lot and drop off at Pentagon or Crystal City.  What is the best time to come to the main Horner lot now to pick people up?  I'm wondering if anyone will be around in the summer months now that school is out and for a later pick up time after 7:30am.....

There are people waiting for a bus at 8 and after 8 at the top Horner lot. Just drive by and ask if anyone is going to Pentagon just like when slugging began. There are usually takers. I've seen 5 people at the Horner bus line waiting for 8:15 last bus to Pentagon.

People are slugging from Stafford 610 to Pentagon & back in the afternoon. I've even poached them out of the bus line. The afternoon is harder to get folks, but they are starting to come around. I remind everybody that I pick up that there are cars in the afternoon waiting. Gotta start trying to get the lines going again!

Is the slug line for Rt 17 in Stafford going to the Pentagon and DC open again? I was slugging to the Pentagon through March 2020 when it ended. My last day slugging was a Tuesday. That afternoon at the Rt 17 pickup at Pentagon I was the slug line, there was nobody else.

I just lucked out when after a few minutes a car with 2 people in the front came by, that was last day slugging. Next day I took the VRE to Franconia/Springfield and bought a smartrip card, been using VRE & Metro ever since to get to work.

Benefits of using VRE & Metro..it's very expensive and I live paycheck to paycheck, on VRE trains they keep it freezing cold no matter what the weather outside. It's slow when I slugged I'd get home by 5:00 now I get home at 6:00 and that is on the best days. VRE is unreliable sometimes, trains break down..or they have to go super slow due to other trains ahead of them or doing track work.
I HATE IT!!Ouch

Mike. I'd suggest that you use the 610 lot & line - it's more stable. As slugging continues to increase then eventually the 17 line will be sustainable again.

Sign at Pentagon Porkchop parking stating changes to Pentagon slugline locations staring July 7th. The signs have been moved as of today. Maybe there will be information shared on Tuesday.
Signs are Springfield/Burke, then Tacketts/Lorton/Montclair and 234. The third line is Horner & Potomac Mills. 234 and tacketts lines combined and moved Horner forward.

Keith

Is the Rt 17 sign at the Pentagon still at the same place?
I was thinking of trying slugging again this week. It's not practical for me to drive to the Rt 610 commuter lot.

Mike - I have not personally checked to see if the Rt 17 sign at the Pentagon is still at the same place, BUT, based upon everything I've heard from the Pentagon Transportation office I believe that it is still in the same place.

I went around the Pentagon slug lines and only observed changes to locations from 234 to Springfield. No changes at Stafford or Fredericksburg lines from what I was able to see last Friday.

From the Pentagon Transportation Office

Subject: Transportation Advisory: Realignment of Pentagon Slug Stations – effective Tuesday, July 6, 2021

Transportations POCs: Please disseminate.

Transportation Advisory: Realignment of Pentagon Slug Stations – effective Tuesday, July 6, 2021

Beginning Tuesday, July 6, 2021, the existing slug stations in the Pork Chop Parking Lot in Pentagon South Parking are realigned to establish improved vehicle queuing space and traffic flow within the Parking Lot. The 610 Mine Road, 610 Stafford, Route 3 and Route 17 slug stations remain open and operational at their current locations along North Rotary Road and Fern Street.

The following are the realignment changes:

1) Tackett’s Mill/Lorton VRE and Montclair/Rt 234 slug stations will be combined into one consolidated station.

2) Horner Road/Potomac Mills will be moved up to the former Montclair/Rt 234 slug station.

There is no change to the Burke/Springfield slug station.

Additionally, the Taxi Drop-off Loop will be repurposed as slug vehicle queuing for the Horner Rd/Potomac Mills slug location. Please follow signage when entering the Pork Chop Parking lot.

As a reminder, the Pork Chop Parking Lot is part of the Pentagon Reservation, as such drivers and pedestrians are subject to all Pentagon rules and regulations when using the slug station facilities. Additionally, slugging is not a government managed program. The slug station facilities are established to provide pick-up/drop-off locations only for Pentagon employees and regional commuters.

For questions regarding the slug station facilities on the Pentagon Reservation, please contact us at whs.pentagon.fsd.mbx.dod-shuttle-bus@mail.mil.

Thank you,

WHS TMPO

I stopped at the Pentagon 2 nights ago to find slugs.  None.  Waited 20 mins.  Then, the trouble is, there's no way to get back to the regular lanes.

I need slugging back!!  Please!!
