In some areas, slug/drivers are "matched" via email coordination. Usually this is done via an email list server or somebody just volunteers to do it for everyone in that area.

Well, a new web-based automated system may be added Slug-Lines.com to make this process a lot easier!! A smart computer programmer has volunteered to see if this process can be automated. Basically, you would enter your destination (Horner) and timeframe (4:00-4:30) and it would match you with the riders or a driver.

More to follow, but its an excited feature to help slugs!

NOTE FROM PROGRAMMER: Well, I'm hoping to start Alpha-Testing the new system in about a month. This will be done by using it to match rides from Rosslyn to Rt.17 (the route I slug in). After all the "Whoopsi's" are found and fixed, we'll expand it for general use. Current estimate: Mid to late July.

A company called NuRide.com is already attempting to utilize this technology. Although, they are still working out glitches. The are advertising "payment" for carpooling. Register at www.nuride.com

Has anyone heard about an automatic matching system from a company called Ecolane?

Sorry, but the automatic system is not operational...yet. I'm still hopeful.

Basically, a couple of programmers were donating time to write this software but just haven't had the time to finish it. They were doing it for free so I can't complain.

Thanks for the link, Max. This should be able to identify some of those smaller out of the way parking spaces and might even encourage some of the drive alones to join a car pool or pick up a slug.

If you are promoting slug lines on the bulletin boards at work, or in the "company" newspaper, include a plug for carpoolworld. You might even find it of use in your next trip to Oakland.
