I really like this idea. Maybe we could keep a string exclusively for people to add to the list (hopefully, there aren't too many). Although, the vast majority of drivers are wonderful, whenever we experience bad drivers or those that don't drop off where they stated, etc., it sure would be helpful to have the information. I, for one, don't care about those who may be deemed "not courteous," but I do care about the dangerous drivers and the ones who don't go where they said they would.

Late model Chrysler convertible (Sebring?), silver w/black top. License may be FORRPOP. Rt 17 to Pentagon. Speeds, tailgates, brakes hard, refuses to let other cars in, and drives sleepy.

DC_Slugger,
It's that kind of driver you described that can ruin the self-regulating slug system. Based on your story, that guy was probably late, but too bad, he needed to fulfil his obligations first. However, because he was fidgeting and cursing and had a baseball bat doesn't necessarily make him creepy -- he may impatient, inconsiderate and self-centered but creepy, that's a strong word [;)]. I'm glad that it all worked out for you in the end. I'm also glad that you asked about the "New - Mine Road lot" before you started on your journey, where bad slugs tend to ask about special requests afterwards. gg |

Ok guys it's been awhile since I have been on here, but with wonderful slugging/driving success from Mine Road there has been no need to be on here. Anyhow, I do have one person to warn everyone about.
It was around 4:45 at L'Enfant I saw a white (older) Chevrolet Suburban sitting there with no other sluggers in sight. So I jogged across the street...and the gentleman was on his cell phone and motioned for me to just jump in. I informed him that I was going to the "New - Mine Road lot" and asked if this would be ok. He said sure...he wasn't sure of where it was and would like to learn about a new lot anyway. So we sat and waited for another rider and she finally came along, but was going to the "Old - 610 lot". He said that it wouldn't be a problem to drop me off first and then her since there were no other sluggers around anyway. So we were on our way, making great time I might add (because he was speeding like 90mph), and about 5:15 we got to the merge of 95 and the HOV lanes and he started getting annoyed with the traffic. Not that there was any, but he couldn't go 90 anymore so got a bit annoyed. He jumped onto Rt.1. That day there happened to be an accident on Rt.1. The man started getting fidgety and cursing at the traffic. I began to get a little uncomfortable, because he had a baseball bat in the backseat(I began to wonder what he used it for...he was a creepy type). So we finally make it to 610 and we are in the left turn lane to go to the Mine Road lot....right as the left turn light was turning green....he decided that I should walk. He asked if this would be a problem. I said yes it would...you said you would take me to the lot. What am I going to do in the other lot??? I told him that I had just had surgery two weeks prior (abdominal) and walking was not for me. And he said well this is such an inconvenience you should really walk it's not that far. About this time the lady in the backseat said that if he would just go to the Old lot...and drop us off she would drive me over. And he praised her for this. I did too, but geez....all the time he spent complaining about traffic and it took us even longer because we had to merge all the way back over and wait for another red light to turn into the old lot. Oh well...like I said older white Chevrolet Suburban. 30+ tall white guy, baseball cap, and baseball bat in the backseat. Beware! |

Here's one to add. I slug from 14th and G around 5pm. There is an older man who sometimes slugs and sometimes drives. He has a limp shoulder. Always dressed professionally. He is a pleasure to talk to but BEWARE do not ride with him.
He either drives and old beat up blue buick with one nonworking door or a black convertable with leather interior. He lets his dogs (not during the commute) ride in both cars and the smell is unbearable not to mention the dirt and hair that ruins your clothes. I used to still ride with him out of kindness but never again! He also goes about 55mph all the way to Stafford which add another 10 minutes to your commute. |

I'm all for signs! As mostly a driver, I prefer to have signs so that there is no need to wait till you get up to the front of the line to yell (like at 14th and NY where the line of cars/buses/taxis can be annoying). At least with the signs, you can easily let people in line know where you're going. This site has them for goodness sake. Let's all use them! [:D]
As far as bad experiences, I've only had one slightly scary riding experience. A big guy in a green Dodge Ram that looks like a construction worker. Says he goes to Pentagon at 6am, and then on the drive home I saw him nodding off. He wasn't going too fast though. But the fear of him falling asleep was enough to freak me out. My only other bad experiences are from inconsiderate riders. It's usually the same people though (like the one I've mentioned in numerous posts before, but I've avoided any description so far). I try to keep radio volume and temperature at a very considerate levels, but this one person both times she rode with me complained within 2 minutes of being in the car. Next time I saw her and had my two people, she asked if I would take a 3rd and I said no. Since then, she just walks past me. Which is a-okay with me! I pick up Mine Road slugs from the Pentagon and it would be very helpful if they could make up signs so we can look for them. When we yell "Mine Road" the slugs obviously not going that way ignore us and turn their backs to us not bothering to tell the slugs down the line that we are looking for Mine Road slugs. I had one gentleman exclaim that "this is the 610 line" when I called out "Mine Road". I told him that I am going to 610 [Einstein] just the other side of it. [;)]
So if you are going to Mine Road, please make a sign so I can find you more easily, okay? [:D] Dina |
