This is very interesting! It appears that Slugging is emerging in the NYC area. In this region slugging started as a result of the HOV lanes and the desire to save time. In NYC, the motivation is to save money on the George Washington Bridge. Regardless of the reason, the result is a grassroots commuter solution to a problem. No overheard, no federally appointed Slug Tsar, just people coming together to solve a problem.

After a recent toll hike on the George Washington Bridge into Manhattan, many drivers are looking to take advantage of the discount given to carpoolers. But New York's Port Authority isn't happy with the way they're doing that. How? By Slugging!!

I was in NY this week and had to go over the GW 2x ($24.00) along with all the other tolls I had to pay coming from VA is absolutely ridiculous. I am from NY and the GW Bridge looks the same as it did when I was a teenager with the same construction going on in the same spot for about 35 years ago. The money is definitely not going to road improvements. I set my GPS to come home and avoid tolls as much as possible. Added about 30 min extra time but I was only out $1 for tolls. NY Port Authority should be ashamed of themselves.
