October 2010 | Issue #16

Dear Slugs/Drivers:

It has been a long time since the last Slug-Lines.com Newsletter, but so many things are happening with slugging that we have re-started our quarterly newsletters. I hate spam as much as anyone, so if you do not wish to receive this newsletter, please read the unsubscribing information at the bottom of this email.

Again, I want to thank everyone for their help in keeping the Slug-Lines.com website up-to-date! It's a great way to commute!

Sincerely,
David LeBlanc

Changes to 14th St. and New York - October 6th, 2010

Article Line Break
THE CURRENT SLUG LOCATION AT 14TH ST BETWEEN H ST AND NEW YORK AVE WILL MOVE TO 15TH ST BETWEEN H ST AND NEW YORK AVE ON Wednesday, October 6th, 2010. Passengers can be picked up between 3:30pm and 6:00pm at the new location. DDOT personnel will be on site on October 6th to provide assistance. If you have any questions please contact the District Department of Transportation at (202) 671-0682 or visit www.slug-lines.com for more information. View and Donload Flyer

This change is part of the District Department of Transportation's (DDOT) efforts to correct the congestion problems along 14th Street. Basically, they are looking into alternative locations next to 14th Street that will allow drivers to pull over more easily and not stop traffic along the busy 14th street. The change to the 14th and New York slug line is the initial pilot change. No other changes to other slug lines will be made until they determine the impact.

FHWA Exploratory Adv. Research Dynamic Ridesharing

Article Line Break
The
Federal Highway Administrataion (FHWA) recently awarded a contract to study slugging and "dynamic ridesharing"! Actually the study will look at slugging and dynamic ridesharing at Houston, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Although the study has not started yet, a group of transportation officials will visit the slug/casual carpool lines in the area. I do not know the details of the study but I expect the intent is to see if slugging can be replicated in other areas of the county.
