Destinations:Need a Sign to Carry When Slugging?

Best Hours: 7:00 - 8:00 a.m.

Drivers:  Look for those holding signs, or standing in line in the kiss and ride section across from the bus line.  If people are not waiting on the curb, hold up a destination sign to lure "impulse sluggers" out of the bus line to your car.

Parking:  Commuter lot, Kiss-n-Ride

Metro Station: No

Bus:

Returning PM Slug Lines: There is no formal afternoon slug line process to Herndon/Monroe, but opportunistic slugs may be available waiting for the 5A Express bus to Dulles Airport that drops off about half of it's passengers at Herndon/Monroe park and ride lot.  Pull up to the bus line prior to the bus arrival times at 3:10, 3:50, 4:25, 5:05; 5:45, 6:25, 7:05 pm. More bus information is found here: <http://www.wmata.com/timetables/dc/5a.pdf>

Another opportunity is to get the phone or e-mail addresses of morning slugs to offer them a ride home in the afternoon.

A.M. Pick-up Procedures & Directions
From Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride to Rosslyn-Metro

Drivers:

  • Pick up riders from Herndon Park & Ride at the north side of platform in the Kiss & Ride lot. Please do not block Kiss & Ride entrance lane because the buses use the lane to exit Park & Ride to Dulles Toll Road (Rt. 267). If the lane backs up, you should pull into a parking space in the Kiss & Ride lot.

  • Look for those holding signs, or standing in line in the kiss and ride section across from the bus line.  If people are not waiting on the curb, hold up a destination sign to lure "impulse sluggers" out of the bus line to your car.

  • Display your "ROSSLYN" destination sign. Be sure to voice your destination also. If possible (without holding up the kiss and ride traffic) you may want to walk near the line of people waiting for the bus.

  • Only take the number of riders that fit comfortably.

  • Once you acquire your rider(s), exit the Kiss & Ride lot and pay $0.25 toll to enter Dulles Toll Road (Rt. 267). After merging with traffic, cautiously move to the left lane to enter HOV lane.

  • Pay $0.50 at main toll plaza and proceed straight toward the I-66 HOV lanes (about two miles ahead - stay to the left to avoid 495 merge congestion).

  • Exit I-66 at "Exit No. 73 - Rosslyn". Travel 2 lights straight ahead to Ft. Myer Drive. Turn right. Carefully move to the left lane. Immediately after first traffic light/intersection, be prepared to safely stop along sidewalk on left to discharge passengers.

Riders:

  • Look for drivers at the north side of platform in the Kiss & Ride lot. Use your own judgement on the length of time you should wait. Driver availability may vary and sluglines offer no guarantee of a ride.

  • Display your "ROSSLYN" destination sign.

  • If you are offered a ride, please enter the vehicle quickly.

  • Once the driver arrives at the destination, thank the driver and exit from the side of vehicle that is facing away from traffic. The destination is the Ft. Myer Drive side entrance to the Rosslyn Metro Station.
